Robert Carradine, Star of 'Revenge of the Nerds,' Dies at 71
25th Feb, 2026

Robert Carradine, a member of the renowned acting dynasty and star of films such as Revenge of the Nerds and the TV series Lizzie McGuire, has passed away at the age of 71.

His brother, Keith Carradine, described him as the "rock" of the family. However, Robert had battled bipolar disorder for two decades, a struggle that ultimately claimed his life. "We want people to know, there is no shame in this," Keith Carradine stated. "It was the disease that took his life, and I want to honor his courage in fighting it, as well as celebrate his beautiful soul. He was incredibly gifted, and we will miss him every day. We find solace in his humor, wit, inclusion, and tolerance. That was my brother."

Born in 1954, Robert was the youngest son of actor John Carradine. He had two half-brothers, David and Bruce, from his father's first marriage, and two brothers, Keith and Christopher. With the exception of Christopher, all the brothers followed in their father’s footsteps into the entertainment industry.

Carradine made his film debut in 1972 alongside John Wayne in The Cowboys. He quickly followed this with a role in the Oscar-winning Coming Home and a brief appearance in Martin Scorsese’s 1973 classic Mean Streets, where he famously shot his real-life brother, David, on screen.

In 1980, he starred alongside David and Keith in The Long Riders, portraying the Younger brothers—a real-life outlaw clan. In a unique casting feat, the film also featured Randy and Dennis Quaid as the Miller brothers, Stacy and James Keach as Frank and Jesse James, and Christopher and Nicholas Guest as the Ford brothers.

Carradine’s most enduring commercial success came in the 1984 comedy Revenge of the Nerds, where he played the lead role of Lewis Skolnick. To prepare for the part, Carradine famously went "undercover" at the University of Arizona, successfully convincing students he was an actual student. He reprised the iconic role in three sequels released in 1987, 1992, and 1994.

His half-brother, Kill Bill star David Carradine, passed away in 2009 at the age of 72.
