Famous BBC presenter Scott Mills has reportedly been dismissed following allegations linked to a historical police investigation into the sexual abuse of a boy.
Some media outlets suggest that Mills was the suspect questioned in the case, which was eventually dropped due to insufficient evidence. On the evening of March 30, a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police stated: "In December 2016, the Met received a referral from another force regarding the non-recent aggravated sexual assault of a boy between 1997 and 2000. In July 2018, officers interviewed a man then in his 40s. A file of evidence was submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), which determined there was insufficient evidence to bring a prosecution. Following this advice, the investigation concluded in May 2019."
While the police did not explicitly name Mills, public consensus points to him as the man in his 40s involved in the probe. Previous reports indicated that Mills was sacked following an anonymous complaint on March 25 regarding "misconduct" related to a "historical relationship."
The BBC officially announced his departure on its website on March 30. The 53-year-old presenter joined the BBC in 1998 and was once moved from a prime-time slot due to issues with alcohol. Before his dismissal, he was among the corporation's highest-paid stars, with an annual salary of nearly £360,000.
